We are proud of our contribution to the successful completion of many environmental projects. Such contributions are very rewarding to Progesys.
We have contributed invaluable services to environmental projects in the Aluminum industry and petrochemical industry:
SPENT POT LINING PILOT PLANT, Saguenay, Quebec
Alcan has built a 180M U.S$ aluminum spent potlining recycling plant in Quebec’s Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region. This unique industrial-scale pilot plant employs 50 people. Progesys performed the pre-commissioning works required for the plant start-up and assistance to operation team. The plant uses an exclusive technology that allows it to treat about 80,000 tons of spent potlining per year. Developed by Rio Tinto Alcan’s Arvida Research and Development Centre (ARDC), the technology also enables the plant to treat potlining from other Quebec aluminium producers. Spent potlining is a material that is removed periodically from the electrolytic cells used to produce aluminium. It is made up of carbon and other products, and is normally pre-treated before being disposed of in highly controlled conditions. The new process renders the spent potlining completely inert and provides the global aluminium industry with a sustainable solution.

ULTRA DIESEL PLUS PROJECT, St-Romuald, Québec
Progesys offered project management and commissioning services for the Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel Project at the Ultramar refinery at Saint-Romuald. The 400 M$ project was finished in time for the new government environmental regulations that took effect in summer 2006 aimed at reducing sulphur dioxide in fossil fuels.

CARBON CALCINATION EPURATION SYSTEM, Arvida, Québec
Progesys and Fives Solios completed the commissioning of new installations at Rio Tinto Alcan Arvida plant. The project included the replacement of existing purification systems with two (2) new bag filters for the carbon calcination and the treatment of Sulfur Dioxide as per environmental requirements.
